# What made you a "mouse-owner"?
Author: Daydreams

I am a rat person myself and only met tame mouse once and they weren't very tame. And I do wonder; what made you intrested in mice, why do you have mice and are you as "hooked" on mice as I'm on rats (a.k.a I can't imagine a life without rats around me)?

(These questions are in english 'cus Grodan asked me to write in english)

I think it's with mice as with rats. It depends very much on the breeding. My first rats weren't very tame or fun to play with at all. They were scared, tensed and ran away as soon as they saw me! It ended up with me owning two angry, scared, biting rats of wich one of them attacked the other all the time. I went back with them to the pet shop.. I thaught that perhaps rats weren't as wonderful creatures as I had imagined.. And my boyfriend got really scared of them too, and said that we should get some other animals.

As i love rats for their beautiful looks i started getting interested in mice. I guess i read a lot at Grodans homepage. As a kid I was very interested in wild mice and have always wanted so badly to touch a real mouse!

I made contact with Elin Mattsson, Vattnadals breeding and got me male. He is a little shy and it took me a while to get to know him. But now he trusts me and always comes running to hide in my hands if he gets a little scared. He loooves to cuddle!

Soon I got me some does and discovered that all my mice had such different personalities!

They are actually not very much like the rats! It's pretty hard to describe in words.. But I'll try! For an example I think my mice are less sensitive to high noises then my rats. But the mice seems to be more sensitive to sudden movements! The mice are more alert. At the same time a little more for cuddeling! The rats feels a bit more.. Needy in some way! And they lick me more and show that they love me in a different way. They move very different. And then again, they are all very different depending on the personality, of course!

Yes, I think they get just as tame as the rats. But if you are looking for a mini-rat, then you are on the wrong path! :)

My first mouse I "took over" from my best friend, Anne-Lee. It was the year 1983. The mouse was a pew shorthair female named Athena. She was very very sweet, calm and tame - a intruduction for me to the mouseworld!

After she died I waited seven years before I got more mice. These mice were texels (astrex longhair) and longhair satin. I came in contact with SVEMUS and started to breed the very same year. Next year I have breed mice for 20 years! ![Skrattande](../tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-laughing.gif)

Wow that is really a long time!

I liked mice since I was 10 years old. Because I was not allowed to have them I never got them. Until one day I realised I still liked mice... My first 2 mice I bought in a pet shop![Generad](../tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-embarassed.gif). Now I have a lot of mice and I love them more and more.

The thing I love most about mice is their livelyness and the fact they are so curious and such happy animals.

Couldn´t agree more! Mice are the "happiest" animals i know! Even happier then dogs! I think the words "happy", "lively" and "curious" describes their nature very good!

i have to say that i  have only been an owner  for 2 months but i love it. Sometimes i doubt that i am right for my girls since i dont always have time to play with them and they go from happy to nervous without me really realising it before its  to late. But today i had one of those moments that makes me so happy i have them. They are truly big animals in small bodies and everytime im in the cage they surprise me. They have good and bad days just as me and  if you just respect that everything is fine. I am so hooked :D

I've liked mice since my sister bought two mice, Smulan and Skorpan, when I was a kid. Some year later she bought Albin and Nisse, and after that she bought two more...

After that I really forgot about them, and I bought a Guinea-pig that I had for almost 5 years, and when Tjorven (The guinea-pig) died, I was really upset, but one year later I started thinking about getting an animal again, but I didn't want to buy another guinea-pig, because it would feel like I'm replacing her.

I didn't want a rabbit even though I love them, because they're too expensive to buy, and their cage is very big and I have a very small room, so...

I started thinking about the mice I used to have, and I really wanted mice.. And now I 'm Müsli and Lea's "mother". :) (And probably about to become a grandmother) ;)
