I can only speak for myself, since I´m one of them who really gone in for the part of being able to have mouse males living together peacefully in a group. I haven´t come to that point when I can introduce mice males as you can do with rat males, but I´m on the way.

Since it´s not in the nature of mouse behavior it takes a little longer time…

It took some time for me to learn how to read the mouse language understand how males work in a group and to quickly see any signs of stress or argue.

Today I have several small groups with 2-6 males. To put a group together I´ve have to consider temperament and character and all time "read" the mice. Best is to put as young males as possible together, about 4-5 weeks of age. And never let a male grow up alone!

Another rule - for me - is to never breed on a dominant male that cannot live in a group with males. So in a litter I choose the male for breeding that is the least dominant and aggressive towards other males. It is also important to do the same with females - not breed on the most dominant and aggressive!

Wel I was waiting for others' experience

Today I put a male (adult) with his sons and 2 males babies of another litter. Let's wait and see :)

I have two brothers living together, they are 1 year and 7 months old now. I hope there will be a litter from one of them soon.

I have tried to keep males together and succeeded with young males. I have not tried that with older males, can you tell how you put them together is there some particular style or something?

I still have questions :P

How do you do with them when you want to breed them? Do you keep them apart for a week and then put them together again? Is it not too difficult?

That´s a little different what I have understand. Some don´t work to put together again other do.

If I´m totaly wrong I think that Grodan has males that she breed with and then put back in the group. But I´ll think she can answer better.

#5 It´s so different. Yes, there is a special style on the males that work together in a group. First of all they have never been in an argue with another male - if they have, they will not tolerate another male… why I don´t know - and they are very calm. They don´t pee a lot, don´t smell as strongly as some males can do and they will not get upset or stressed by smelling another male.

A strange idea of mine is that´s is often longhair males that are calm and not having so much testosterone.

#7 That´s correct. I breed on them and then put them in the male-group again. I always have to consider the special group how the males in that group are working. In some group I can take one male and put him together with a doe for 2-3 weeks and then just put him back in the male group again, without any trouble at all. Some males I have to split up and put everyone with one doe of their own in another cage and after 2-3 weeks put them together in their cage they shared before (it´s important no one lived in this cage and it´s not cleaned under 2-3 weeks since it got the smell of these bucks).

Ok :) I have 2 groups I want to split but I'm afraid I'll have ta part them afterall… I'll try this out so. Tell you after that how it worked…

Yes my tamest group is 4 longhaired and one shorthaired, all brothers… They have never fought once.

I hope they wont argue just because they met girls…
