Amy and Rory, both named from Doctor Who - a couple both in the series and in real life (as mice). And then they die within a few days from each other. It's ironic, isn't it.

Amy had a seizure and died Wednesday, something I haven't really had time to process or mourn or anything. Rory had been losing weight ever since, despite eating all the food given to him. Losing weight and jumping around, running around in the cage and gnawing on the bars (something I've never noticed on him before). I could hear him run on his saucer and so on when I was not close to his cage, but if I was 1 meter from his cage or within eyesight, he'd get all "jumpy" and attention seeking. I tried to spend as much time as possible with him - during which he seemed calmer - but I can only do so much. I admit my time has been limited due to Christmas getting closer, but I think I've actually spent more time than normal with him this last week, maybe subconsciously to help him through… I don't know.

I also tried introducing him to his 4 week old sons, but he just attacked them. He was probably depressed or mourning or both, something I've never seen to this extent in a mouse (or another pet) before. It was horrible. I've checked and he had no worms or anything; he just got agitated and so skinny in just a few days… Then when I was going to clean his cage out (earlier tonight) and make it all Christmasy, he was there on his side gasping for air - his sides sucked in… There was nothing more I could do but to put him to sleep.

I'm so shocked, yet I know there was nothing more I could do. I just wish there had been.
