I don't think ants are dangerous in any way, as long as it's not the red ones…. I mean they really hurt when they bite.
I don't think they are very energy rich.
When I grew up I eat many ants and I'm fine.

As I wrote in the swedish discussion; our mice has an ant-road into their cage, but I haven't seen them eating the ants.  All other insects have had a very short life time when entering the cage.
