We have always called all Longhair Longhair in Sweden…

I'm sorry, I should have said longhair. It is longhair in the Dutch standard, too. Because I write gogo on their family trees I tend to say angora, but it should be longhair. As far as I know the longhaired mice in Holland have the same alleles. It is noticable from three weeks onwards, and when they get older the boys show it better than the girls. When they are young they have thin long hairs, and when they get older the coat gets thicker but the longest hairs get shorter (or maybe mine are not very good examples).

I have only heard once from a breeder in France she put two longhaired mice together and their offspring was all shorthaired, so I suppose she did have two different genes, but I don't have the details.

#7 Yes, the genotyp for angora is gogo, but I have also heard of the genotyp lghlgh for longhair. When I had my first longhair, I thought it was angora, but I am not sure so I should write longhair.

I don't have many longhair. It is not rare in Holland, but they usually lack type and size, even when outcrossed with better type mice. Also the colour usually is bad. Same for our texels. Texels over here are usually frizzy + longhair. Some people have astrex but most of the mice with curls over here have very bad coat. Because some people don't know if they have frizzy or astrex, they simply call it "curly mouse".

The texels in Sweden have much better type and curls, so there's a lot of work to be done on the texels in Holland. I do have some astrex, my shorthaired astrex adults look like a shorthaired mouse with no curls at all (and frizzy shorthaired looks very similar).

#8 I never been able to see the differens between astrex and frizzy. I think I only seen frizzy on picture…

In this picture there are two texels: one is frizzy based and one is astrex based. The frizzy coat is a bit rougher, the hairs on the astrex look (or are) longer and thicker. The frizzy is still young so the coat will probably lose some more of her curlyness. I find it hard to tell from pictures too, because they can look the same. It is easier to see the difference when you see the mice in reality.

For short haired astrex and frizzy I find it even harder to see.

My god, I'm totally in love with mice right now. I've got 12 mice at home but I still want more. :)

But I'm just going to keep my "old" mice and one of the babies, and my sister's going to buy one of the babies too.

I would like to see some more Frizzy!

When I saw Fuzzy in Poland I was convinced that it´s another fur-gene than astrex, it´s easy too see. But Frizzy???

#15 I made some pictures today, but not of the frizzies. I will make them some other day. Since some of my frizzies had skin problems (just below their ears, and it is not parasites) I decided not to breed for them anymore, until I find out what the problem is. I have frizzies that have no problems, so I am not even sure if it is just a coincident.

Frizzy looks more similar to astrex, but it is recessive. Fuzz is very different, it is short, curly and with not so much hair. In Holland there is a variety called "rex" in the standard, not to be confused with astrex. I think these are actually fuzz, and it is a mistake in our standard, but opinions differ on this subject.
